Council Enacts Changes to Public Comment Process at Council Meetings

Speakers Card First Page

At the March 19th, 2018 Florence City Council meeting, the City Council adopted updated City Council Rules and Procedures. These updates included amendments to the public comment process for City Council meetings.

The City encourages all interested persons to attend Council meetings and express their views verbally, or to submit written communications to the City Council to express their opinions for or against an agenda item, or on any topic of relevance to the City of Florence. The City Council allows for public comments on items not listed on the agenda at the beginning of each City Council regular meeting. In addition, the City Council allows for public comment on each action item on the agenda.

Beginning April 16th, 2018, all parties interested in speaking at a City Council meeting must complete a ‘Speaker’s Card’ at least five minutes before the meeting is scheduled to begin. These changes will allow the Council to better anticipate the number of speakers and to maximize time for speakers of varying topics.

To speak at a Council meeting, please fill out a ‘Speaker’s Card’ at least five minutes before the meeting. Cards area available on the City of Florence website at http://www.ci.florence.or.us/council/request-address-city-council-speakers-card, or available at each City Council regular session.

In general, the Florence City Council meets on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month.
