Accounting Clerk I

$18.20 - $25.15/hr. DOQ.

The City of Florence is accepting applications for an Accounting Clerk I to join our Finance Department! This position is a regular, full-time, non-exempt position (Monday - Friday; 8am-5pm). This position is not represented by a union or association.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Accounting Clerk I performs a wide variety of complex clerical, administrative, and technical bookkeeping and accounting duties in preparing, processing, recording, reconciliation, and maintenance of financial accounts such as accounts receivable, collections, utility billing, and assessments.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Below are several classifications of essential functions that this position is responsible for performing. Please see the attached job description for illustrative examples of the types of duties performed under the classification. This is not intended to represent a complete list of all assigned duties.

Accounts Receivable – includes preparing invoices and collecting payments, data entry, and coordination with departments.

Utility Billing – includes detailed data entry, coordination with other departments and services, and direct customer service.

Other Functions – includes processing receipts, balancing funds for daily deposits, and being one of our front line customer service members.

This position will also perform other related duties as assigned, including backing up others in the department and at the front counter.

 

MANDATORY MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent; and
  • One (1) year of professional experience utilizing computerized accounting systems and spreadsheet programs; or
  • Any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform duties.

Other

  • Possession of (or ability to obtain) a valid Oregon Driver’s License; and
  • Possession of (or ability to obtain) notary certification.

DESIRABLE ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate would also have the following experience:

  • Previous work experience in billing and collections.
  • Bookkeeping experience in governmental or not-for-profit work environment.
  • Experience working with the Caselle accounting software.
  • Bi-lingual ability in Spanish and English.
