  1. Review the job description carefully before submitting your application, and make sure to address all of the required qualifications and skills.
  2. Provide clear and concise information about your work history, including your job titles, dates of employment, and key responsibilities and achievements. Do not put "see resume."
  3. Tailor your application and cover letter to the specific job you are applying for, highlighting relevant skills and experiences. Note: generally cover letters are optional, but some postings do require one.
  4. Use bullet points to break up your job duties and accomplishments. This makes it easier for the hiring manager to quickly scan your application.
  5. Provide specific examples of how you have demonstrated the skills and qualifications required for the job, such as through past projects or achievements. Be specific and try to use measurable information. For example, "Produced 100 widgets per hour," as opposed to "produced widgets."
  6. Include any relevant certifications, licenses, or degrees that are required for the position, and be prepared to provide documentation if requested.
  7. Double-check your application for any typos or errors, and ask a friend or family member to review it as well.
  8. Be honest and transparent about your work history and qualifications, as any discrepancies may be grounds for disqualification.
  9. Provide clear and specific answers to any supplemental questions that are included in the application.

  10. Finally, be sure to submit your application before the deadline. If you have not heard from the City by two weeks from the application deadline, please reach out to hr@ci.florence.or.us to get information on the status of your application.
