Trees, trees, trees! It's time to honor what makes our area beautiful. The City of Florence's Environmental Management Advisory Committee invites you to our free Arbor Day celebration on Saturday, April 30th at the Old Town Park on Bay Street from 10:00am - 2:00pm. We will have speakers, informational handouts, a prize drawing for a half cubic yard of Flo-Gro fertilizer, and photo contest prizes. Just before 2:00pm we will go to the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce to dedicate Florence's own Heritage Tree originating from a specimen that survived the bombing of Hiroshima in Japan. Bring your family and share this special day with us.

Lauren Grand to Speak at Arbor Day Celebration
Want to find out more about the forest we live in and hear some research-based information about trees? Here’s your chance. Ms. Lauren Grand, an Assistant Professor of Practice at OSU and Extension Service in Forestry and Natural Resources, will give a talk at the EMAC Arbor Day celebration on April 30th at 11:00 am in Old Town Park.

Hiroshima Peace Tree
The City of Florence's Environmental Management Advisory Committee (EMAC) would like to invite you to participate in the dedication ceremony for Florence’s Hiroshima Peace Tree on April 30th at 2:00pm at the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce. Special thanks go to the Chamber of Commerce who provided a place for the tree to live. It has already been planted, but we wish to invite you to the dedication ceremony.

Hiroshima Trees are descended from gingko trees that miraculously survived the atomic bombing. The seeds of these trees were propagated and the daughter trees are called “hibakujumoku” or “Hiroshima Legacy Trees,” or sometimes simply “Peace Trees.” Japan’s Green Legacy Hiroshima project collects and distributes the seeds from the hibakujumoku. This ceremony is to honor those who fought and died in the war, as well as the millions of civilians who were injured or killed.
